‘Muhammad’ is the Most Popular Baby Name in London

According to Figures from the UK Office of National Statistics, the name ‘Muhammad’ was the most popular name for babies born in London. The alternate spelling ‘Mohammed’ came fourth in the list of top 20 boy’s names. ‘Maryam’ was the 18th most popular baby girl’s name in the list of top girl’s names in the capital. Muslims also name their children ‘Adam’ after the Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) – that name came 13th.

The figures were based on arond 70,000 newborn baby names in 2012, the most recent data available for baby names in London.
