Although Britain has already carried out drone strikes in Syria killing two of their own citizens, British MPs are expected to vote on whether to carry out airstrikes on Da’esh targets in Syria using fighter jets.
But how much will each airstrike mission cost Britain?
According to Sky News, each 6-hour Tornado mission costs £210,000. As for the payload, 4 Paveway bombs cost £22,000 each and 2 Brimstone missiles cost £105,000 each. Therefore if a Tornado is sent out on a 6-hour mission and it drops all of its payload, it would cost £508,000.
That can pay for one of the following:
- 20 Paramedics
- 20 Police Officers
- 20 Teachers
- 19 Nurses
- 18 Firefighters
- 18 Junior Doctors
Based on the average salary of each profession for one year.
Many are opposed to Britain increasing their military activities in Syria saying that they will have little effect considering the fact that many countries are already carrying out air raids on Da’esh targets. Coalition airstrikes led by the USA and separate airstrikes by Russia have already claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians. No matter how accurate the missiles are claimed to be, the ones who will suffer the most are the ordinary Syrian civilians.
