The Prophet’s Love for Hasan and Husain

The prophet’s grandsons, Hasan and Husain (may Allah be pleased with them both) were dearly loved by him. Imam At-Tirmidhi has recorded some narrations about the prophet’s love for his two grandsons in his compilation of hadith; Jami-At Tirmidhi under the chapters on the virtues of the companions of the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Here are 7:

1. The Prophet loved them

Al-Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Hasan and Husain, so he said:

“O Allah, I love them, so love them.”

2. Most beloved of the Prophet’s household

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked:

“Which of the people of your house are most beloved to you?” He said: “Al-Hasan and Al-Husain.” And he used to say to Fatimah: “Call my two sons for me.” And he would smell them and hug them.

3. Loving them is loving the Prophet

‘Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:

“The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took Hasan and Husain by the hand and said: ‘Whoever loves me and loves these two, and their father and mother, he shall be with me in my level on the Day of Judgement.”

4. They will be the leaders of the youth in Jannah

Abu Sa’eed (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Al-Hasan and Al-Husain are the leaders of the youth of Paradise.”

5. The two fragrant flowers of the Prophet

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:  I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sayng:

“Indeed Al-Hasan and Al-Husain – they are my two fragrant flowers in the world.”

6. The Prophet descends from the minbar for them

Abu Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:

“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a Khutbah to us when Al-Hasan and Al-Husain came, wearing red shirts, walking and falling down. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the Minbar and carried them, and placed them in front of him. Then he said: ‘Allah spoke the Truth: Indeed, your wealth and your children are a trial. I looked at these two children walking and falling down, and I could not bear patiently anymore until I interrupted my talk and picked them up.”

7. “Husain is from me, and I am from Husain”

husain

Ya’la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Husain is from me, and I am from Husain. May Allah love those who love Husain.”

As believers, we should love Hasan and Husain and the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Their lives were dedicated to preserving and living the sunnah of the messenger of Allah. We should be saddened when we read about the martrydom of Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) but we should not let our emotions spur us into doing those actions which are contrary to the very teachings Husain gave his life for.
