The Eiffel Tower’s Lights Are Turned Off to Pay Tribute to the Victims of the Mogadishu Attack

The lights of the Eiffel Tower were turned off at midnight in a symbolic gesture to pay tribute to the victims of the truck bombing in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Saturday’s terror attack claimed the lives of over 300 people with many others left injured.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1887–89 and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.

A message on the Eiffel Tower’s Facebook page read:

At the request of the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the Eiffel Tower lights will be symbolically turned off tonight, from midnight, to pay tribute to the victims of the Mogadishu attack.
