With news about the situation in Gaza only getting worse by the day, it’s easy to feel helpless about what you can do to help the Palestinian people. Social media feeds, television bulletins and newspapers are full of images of the death and destruction taking place in Gaza, constantly reminding us of the plight of those living there. Yet, thousands of miles away, we can still work to aid and assist our brothers and sisters in Palestine. From simply raising our hands in prayer, to getting out on the streets to raise funds; there are many things that we can do to help with the aid and relief effort. You can make a positive change for those suffering in Gaza, and here are a 5 ways you can help:
1. Make Dua
Allah (swt) is the All Hearing (As-Sami’) and the All Seeing (Al-Baseer), and thus who better to turn to for help and assistance. When we raise our hands in Dua, we must have full certainty (yaqeen) within ourselves that Allah (swt) will answer our supplications.
Dua is the weapon of the believer, and it is our means of contact to our Lord. Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an:
“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me—indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of every supplicant when he calls upon Me […]” (Qur’an 2:186)
Thus, do not lose hope and go directly Allah (swt), the Almighty whose power is over all things.
Raise your hands and remember those in Gaza and all other places where there is suffering, destruction and bloodshed.
2. Donate
No matter how little you donate, you can be sure that it will go towards making a difference to someone suffering in Gaza. Muslim Aid’s Gaza Emergency campaign is raising funds to help pay for medical supplies, hospital running costs, blood transfusions and urgently needed food and water packs. Here are a few ways your money can be spent in the way of Gaza:
-£60 can provide a food pack for a family for one month
-£150 can help cover the cost of an ambulance service for 10 people
-£300 can help pay for urgently needed blood transfusions
What better time to spend in the way of those in need than in the month of Ramadan, as we know that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
‘The best charity is that given in Ramadan’ [Tirmidhi]
