A member of the public who rescued three police officers following a road traffic collision last Thursday (4 November 2021) has been given a commendation for his bravery.
Mohammed Abugharqoud, from Radcliffe, was presented with a Chief Inspectors Commendation award on Friday morning, following the collision on Mancunian Way.
The incident resulted in a police van ending up on its side in the middle of the road trapping the officers inside the van.
Mohammed witnessed the incident and managed to smash the windscreen of the van and get the officers to safety, badly injuring his hands in the process, which required treatment at hospital.
Chief Inspector Stephen Wiggins, of GMPs City of Manchester division, who presented the award to Mohammed at his home on Friday morning, said:
“Mohammed’s quick thinking and bravery meant that the officers involved were thankfully not seriously injured and we are extremely grateful for his selflessness and kindness in helping our officers.
“It is usually the police who respond to those that are in danger, so for the roles to be reversed and a member of the public instead coming to the aid of our officers is nothing short of admirable.”
